Snapshot in time, pictures of Tyler and our kids

Here's Tyler Sean chilling out this morning. He's a content baby and doing well. Lisa is doing great too. She slept on her belly which hasn't happened for awhile.

What's his biggest feature people comment on? That's just it - he's BIG. Just about every nurse makes a comment about his size. Lisa will come home tomorrow (Thursday) while I hang with the kids tonight. Click on the picture for the life size version.

What have our kids' reaction been? When I told Joshua (4) over the phone, "Hey, did you remember that mommy had her baby today?"
He replied, "What?! I totally forgot. Bye."
Then he hung up the phone. He didn't even give me a chance to reply. He could care less. Kayla (2) on the other hand wants to "give baby pacifier, blanket" and "pet" the baby. She's all mom. What's funny is that the picture here represents just the opposite of how they've responded in real life.

Makes me think how God responds to new believers in Him. I'm sure He's overjoyed every time someone new comes into His kingdom, cares for them deeply, and wants to see them mature to that next step. Maybe that's where this illustration stops - we'd like to keep things just as they are, no growing, no changing. We tend to like to take a snapshot just as things are.

Other fun facts:
  1. There's a "Lisa Nelson" in the night shift at the hospital maternity area. That was confusing.
  2. The hospital had to get an outfit from pediatrics, the ones in maternity weren't big enough.
  3. I almost drove a 7'+ truck into the 7' and below parking garage at the hospital.
  4. We are REALLY happy he wasn't born on April 1st.
  5. We didn't know if it was going to be a boy or girl in advance.
  6. The doctor 'assured' us ahead of time that we didn't have a 10 pound baby. He delivered the baby. I asked for a discount.
  7. Lisa had an epidural, but she got the first dose of it at 11:05am...the baby came at 11:16am. Not sure it was worth that large needle for only 11 minutes. I'm talking for me, not Lisa. I hate needles.
  8. The hospital food is great. You can order anything anytime from 7a to 7p. Fortunately, for me, they don't give food for spouses/guests. So I go to Burger King.
  9. Tyler is a very good sleeper so far. Four hours last night. We're told the bigger they are, the better they sleep.
  10. The child is verging on 11 pounds. Try carrying 11 pounds around with you for just one hour sometime. Just ONE hour. And strap it to your front - none of the backpack business. Now I'm beginning to understand what pregnant women go through. No wonder you guys are ready to have that baby out. Geesh.

  6. He's adorable. Praise the Lord for a healthy baby and a safe delivery. Lisa, you are an amazing woman -- over 10 1/2 pounds!!! Wow. Your "big belly posts" are even funnier now that we know the reason for your adorable baby bump. So glad to hear you got to sleep on your tummy -- it is the little things in life that we can really enjoy in addition to a new member of the family.

Bryan, you make me laugh about your comment to the doctor asking for a discount -- so funny!

We are very happy for you guys. -- Karis

Doctors don't know, I tell ya. They told me around 8 lbs a week early and mine was 9.8 lbs. I can't believe almost 11 pounds, way to go Lisa! I feel your pain. Man oh man. Congrats and get some rest. Nikki
